Colorful tulips, magnificent magnolia blooms, a babbling
brook, a sunny porch, and outstanding food and wine created the ideal setting
to discuss the end of the world. Ann F
deserves credit for her heroic efforts to keep returning the discussion to the book
amid the laughter and alternative topics.
Hank and Naomi’s brief romantic interlude gave some oomph to
an otherwise dull main character (thanks to the reviewer’s wording for this
encounter I no longer refer to past experiences as one night stands). Group consensus was that the familiar setting
was the best part of this book, Joy’s street was even mentioned. Oh and we’re glad Hank took the dog, we liked
the dog. While the book received great reviews and the theme was interesting, we could not work up any enthusiasm for this topic. Without you Marilyn this
was just not an asteroid group.
Welcome back Joy and Celia and as always we missed those who
were not there – but then again lobster quiche can only go so far. Thanks for the great recipe Judy. MJ – hope you are in less pain.
Celia reviewed her suggestions for our next book. Having read a bit of Me Before You, she
strongly expressed her opinion that it was not up to our club standards. The book chosen is Me Before You which we
will be reading for the July 31st meeting at Celia’s.
